Spring Book Study

The Extinction of Experience: Being Human in a Disembodied World
by Christine Rosen

Tuesday evenings in the Church Library at 7:30, through June 10

Led by Rev. Love, together will read and discuss the profound changes and challenges of living with our embrace of technology. More than just a lament and a yearning for a simpler time, Rosen explores the effects on our sense of self, our
relationships, and the choices we face daily, challenging us to “reclaim serendipity, community, patience, and risk.” If you are interested in being a part of this study, please contact Rev. Love.

RPC Programs
Church Choirs

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir, open to all persons high-school age and up, sings each Sunday of the program year (approximately nine months), on the great festivals of the church year, and for occasional concerts or other services. The ability to read music makes for ease of progress, but anyone who can match and maintain pitch is welcome! The Chancel Choir is fortunate to have section leaders (a core of professional musicians) who assist and help to inspire all singers and, by extension, all who worship here.

The Chancel Choir’s regular schedule is Sunday-centered. The usual routine is to begin with warm-up at 9:15 a.m., sing the 10:00 a.m. service, and then have the weekly rehearsal from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (note: there is time for all to enjoy a bit of fellowship at coffee hour following the 10:00 a.m. service). If you are not able to sing the entire season, participation as your schedule allows is more than welcome. A few rehearsals take place on weekday evenings or Saturday mornings to allow for rehearsing with additional singers or instrumentalists for special events such as Cantata Sunday or concerts.

Please contact Jason Charneski to learn more. For further information, please visit our music page.

Children’s Choir

Stories and Song for Children explores Biblical stories and attendant music for those age 5 through Grade 2. The sessions are held Wednesday afternoons during the program year (mid-September through mid-June), from 3:45 – 4:15 p.m. (a nutritious snack is available beginning at 3:30 p.m.).

Stories and Songs for Children is an opportunity for early elementary- age students to learn about the Christian faith with their ears and their eyes, engage in communal singing, and make new friends.

Please contact Jason Charneski to learn more. For further information, please visit our music page.

RPC Youth

Confirmation

The confirmation class has been hard at work since last September, learning the essentials of the Christian faith, reflecting on their own beliefs, and thinking about how their faith is to be practiced amid all the details and concerns of everyday life. In early May, they put the final touches on their Statements of Faith – personal reflections of where they are in their journey of faith. Each confirmand then met individually with an elder of the church to talk about their statements and their plans for beginning their adult life as a follower of Christ and as a member of this church. At the end of May, the class had a meeting with the full Session to be approved for full adult membership.

Confirmation is an affirmation of their faith and the vows made by their parents at their baptism years ago. At this point in their lives, it is a public commitment to continue the growth, learning, and service that is a part of the journey of faith in the context of the life of the church. Rather than “graduation,” Confirmation truly is a beginning and not an end. We look forward to seeing how the journey goes for this great group of young people!

On June 1, we will celebrate this new beginning as we worship together and welcome these new members to the table of fellowship. The festivities will begin with a breakfast for confirmands and their families at 8:45 a.m. in the Assembly Room. Worship with Confirmation and Communion will be at 10:00 a.m. There, with the confirmands, we can all reconfirm our commitment to grow in faith and to be a part of God’s good work in the world!

For more information, please visit our Confirmation page, or email Dan Love.
