The Extinction of Experience: Being Human in a Disembodied World
by Christine Rosen

Tuesday evenings at 7:30, May 6 – June 10, in the Library
Led by Rev. Love, together will read and discuss the profound changes and challenges of living with our embrace of technology. More than just a lament and a yearning for a simpler time, Rosen explores the effects on our sense of self, our relationships, and the choices we face daily, challenging us to “reclaim serendipity, community, patience, and risk.” If you are interested in being a part of this study, please contact Rev. Love and begin reading so we can dive in on May 6.

RPC Programs
Church Choirs

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir, open to all persons high-school age and up, sings each Sunday of the program year (approximately nine months), on the great festivals of the church year, and for occasional concerts or other services. The ability to read music makes for ease of progress, but anyone who can match and maintain pitch is welcome! The Chancel Choir is fortunate to have section leaders (a core of professional musicians) who assist and help to inspire all singers and, by extension, all who worship here.

The Chancel Choir’s regular schedule is Sunday-centered. The usual routine is to begin with warm-up at 9:15 a.m., sing the 10:00 a.m. service, and then have the weekly rehearsal from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (note: there is time for all to enjoy a bit of fellowship at coffee hour following the 10:00 a.m. service). If you are not able to sing the entire season, participation as your schedule allows is more than welcome. A few rehearsals take place on weekday evenings or Saturday mornings to allow for rehearsing with additional singers or instrumentalists for special events such as Cantata Sunday or concerts.

Please contact Jason Charneski to learn more. For further information, please visit our music page.

Children’s Choir

Stories and Song for Children explores Biblical stories and attendant music for those age 5 through Grade 2. The sessions are held Wednesday afternoons during the program year (mid-September through mid-June), from 3:45 – 4:15 p.m. (a nutritious snack is available beginning at 3:30 p.m.).

Stories and Songs for Children is an opportunity for early elementary- age students to learn about the Christian faith with their ears and their eyes, engage in communal singing, and make new friends.

Please contact Jason Charneski to learn more. For further information, please visit our music page.

RPC Youth

Confirmation

With Confirmation Sunday coming on June 1, the Confirmation class will be wrapping up their good work this month. Statements of faith – their personal thoughts on where they are in their journey of faith – were recently finalized and are now in the hands of the elders of the church. This month, each confirmand will meet individually with one of the church elders to talk about their statements and their plans for beginning their adult life as a follower of Christ and as a member of the church. There is a regular class meeting to plan for Confirmation Sunday on Sunday, May 18 at 5 p.m., and on Wednesday, May 28 at 8 p.m., the class will meet with the full Session to be approved for confirmation and full adult membership. We look forward to celebrating their Confirmation next month!
